When you look at what games are considered the most powerful at the moment in terms of popularity, then many will suggest the likes of Fortnite, PUBG and other titles along those lines. Both are relatively new titles in the grand scheme of things, especially when you compare them to the likes of say, Grand Theft Auto V.
GTA V, having released back in 2013, still has a major impact even so long after release. Take 2017 for example, which saw the game have its most profitable year so far thanks to microtransactions, as well as having the highest number of players back in December.
Even back in January last month, rather amazingly the Rockstar title topped the gaming charts in the UK. It has been a prominent presence in said charts ever since launch, and doesn’t look to be dropping out of the top 20 anytime soon.
So it raises the question as to how it has been able to maintain such populairt after all this time? There is little doubt that this is down to what GTA Online has to offer, offering players a free-to-play mode (if they choose to) with an absolute plethora of activities to take part in. Whether you simply want to roam around, compete in a race, take on a heist with friends, GTA Online seems to have it all, with masses of variety in each entity. And what’s more, the free updates of content just keep on coming.
Long may the reign of GTA V continue, as we look forward to its wild west counterpart with the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 this year.
